MMS on iPhone for AT&T, system limitation or clever marketing?

For those of you who have an iPhone, you may have experience a great deal of struggle because it does not support MMS (i.e. Picture text messaging), at least until now. As of September 2009, the new iPhone was released with MMS. For the first time in its lifecycle, owning an iPhone means you have complete features that you would expect from a smartphone. Anyhow, there were many speculations concerning the reasons why it did not have this feature in the original release.

In our estimation, this was a smart marketing move for AT&T because it required that you get a data plan even if you don’t want to use any of the data features. With traditional mobile cell phones (smart phones included), you can get talk, text, and picture messaging without having to get a data plan. How is it then that it was “not possible,” until now, with the iPhone? With this “limitation”, if you got the iPhone, you had to get the data plan which cost you at least an extra $30/month. That’s pretty clever if you ask me. Please don’t be mistaken, we are not saying that there are not legitimate strain on the network with data usage. On the contrary, the following may or may not be a bunch of bull, but it did help a little to alleviate the discussion.

This is not our opinion, but direct from the folks at AT&T. I guess you can be the judge on the matter. If nothing else, this video does a great job simplifying how cell phone work for those who are not so tech savvy. What do you think, please drop us a comment?

Cell Phone Guns have arrived and are Making a Bang at the Airport!

Here’s a particularly interesting items that has entered the mobile technology world.  Talk about intriguing, but i suppose this direction is where we are headed.  On the one hand, this is kinda neat, while on the other hand i can see the danger in it.

Most see airport security as a pain. Some feel violated. When you watch this clip, you’ll understand why they want your cell phone through the  x-ray  machine. If you get asked to test your cell phone at the airport, this is the reason. Cell phone guns have arrived. They are real. The attached video clip shows how cell phone guns operate.

These phones are not in the U.S. yet, but they are in use overseas.

Beneath the digital phone face is a 22 caliber handgun capable of firing four rounds in rapid succession using the standard telephone keypad.

European law enforcement officials are stunned by the discovery of these deadly decoys. They say phone guns are changing the rules of engagement in Europe. Only when you have one in your hand do you realize that they are heavier than a regular cell phone.

Be patient if security asks to look at your cell phone or turn it on to show that it works. They have a good reason!

without a mobile phone is the pits!

Wow! What a week! I did not realize how much i relied on my mobile phone until i don’t have one. This was my week to try and stay in touch with clients and everyone else without having a mobile phone. You wonder, how is that possible that a mobile lifestyle consultant can do without his mobile phone. Well it happened, this week. No, i did not drop my phone in the toilet or ran over it with the car. Thank G+d that i did not do such a thing. Actually what i did was forgot to pay my bill. Then when i discovered, it was too late. I needed to make those calls. Somehow the alignment of the planets must be a bit strange this week because i proceeded to post a payment and realize that my account did not have enough money in it. No big deal, i will check on it tomorrow. Later the next day, i went to pick up the mail and received a return check from our bank. It turned out that one of the checks from our client had bounced and as such reduced the balance in the account. Now what a mess! I don’t believe it. Anyway, that was okay this can be fixed.

Now this next part gets even more interesting. I decided to use my back up phone i got from my partner Russ. It seems to always be there when i need it. Sure enough it was. Everything is now fine, right? Wrong. After about 5 calls or so, i was warned that i was low on minutes. How is that possible? I have not used that phone all months. Finally it turned out that the phone was set to cap at 97 minutes. Ok, no big deal, i’ll just call him and get it extended, then i will be back in business. I show up at the show and come to find out Russ and family made a quick get-away that morning to Hawaii. Oh no, this is not happening to me. Okay, something’s got to give here. Boy this was an adventure. Thank G+d for the Family Allowance which gives me great control over the bill, but not too great for those of us who don’t have control over it. Anyway, a great feature to have would be “overdraft pool” that anyone on the plan who still have minutes can release into a general pool of minutes for those of us who like to over use our phone minutes to share from. This would be a cool feature. hmmm.. Come to think of it, i should post that idea on ideapinata.com or Twitter.

Okay, this post is getting long. Anyway, i email Russ and he finally responded and increased my allowance, but that only came this morning. That’s great. The rest of the week was a learning experience with how to live the 21st century mobile lifestyle without a mobile phone or one that was completely functional. More on that in the next post.
